And now for the exciting part two of Great Events for Halloweeners. At our last installment, you heard about some large and crazy events in the Big Apple, Atlanta, California, Massachusetts , and at a zoo in Kentucky. Here are five more crazy and funtastic Halloweener events around the country.
6. Fetish and Fantasy Halloween Ball in Las Vegas. This huge Halloween night event is definitely not for the kiddies. It’s an adults only costume party that has been called one of the top 10 events in the world and one of the 5 events to attend before you die. If you are getting into Vegas early check out the Monster Mayhem and Boca Park Funtime Frightfest that starts on October 9th. Make sure you come in a great costume, because you are the entertainment.
7. Emma Crawford Festival. For something totally different, head to
Manitou Springs, Colorado on October 24th. This annual event commemorates the untimely death of good old Emma, who supposedly haunts the town. There’s even a completely bizarre coffin race where racers push their coffin with “Emma” inside up main street.
8. Sleepy Hollow Legend Weekends. The Hudson Valley celebrates being the home of the Headless Horseman for two weekends in October. There are a plenty of daytime, nighttime, creepy, scary, and just fun events for the whole family.
9. Markoffs Haunted Forest. Take on the haunted forest trails in Darnestown, just outside of Washington DC, this October and see if you scare easily. These professional scarers have been freaking people out every Halloween for 17 years and they think they’ll have you jumping in fright too as you take a nighttime stroll through their haunted forest with everything gruesome, unexpected and haunting waiting for you.
10. Dia de los Muertos. Day of the Dead is a big event in many Latino communities, so you can find celebrations in many places throughout the US. Some are held on before Halloween, some the day after (All Saints Day), and some on November 2 (All Souls Day). San Francisco and Los Angeles have annual events. Or head to Mexico (I’d recommend going to Oaxaca )where Dia de los Muertos is actually a public holiday. This event is not just another name for Halloween. It’s all about commemorating and honoring the dead . . . but costumes, food, and celebrations are a big part.
