Life's Too Short to Wear Boring Underwear

August 3rd, 2009

My favorite day of observance is fast approaching. August 5, 2009 is National Underwear Day - the day when we honor our undies. Where would be without them?? Think about it for a second  - our days would be all about chafing, poking, grabbing, and just getting rubbed wrong.

This is me and my friend, Dolores, celebrating National Underwear Day in 2008.

Ah, but our undies can do so much more than just give that layer of  protection or separation from our pants, shorts, and skirts. They can bring fun, happiness, inspiration, empowerment and sexiness into our lives. Yes, your underwear can do all that – -  as long as you aren’t settling for boring, unimaginative, white or tan undergarments. How dull those are and a what a complete waste.

Nothing but fun going on here.

Nothing but fun going on here.

You may have to dress in a certain, respectable way for work or school, but no one can tell you which undies to wear. Having something fun or sexy or empowering going on under your clothes can really change your life. Try it and see.

So take August 5th and celebrate your underwear day. Here are the top 5 ways to properly observe this wonderful day:

National Underwear Day in New York

  1. For the completely brave, daring and uninhibited folks out there – do as the New York models, and wear only your undies today.
  2. For the slightly less brave, wear your undies over your clothes instead of under.
  3. This one everyone can do: purposefully wear your funnest, most playful, sexiest pair of undies in the regular way.
  4. Go buy a new pair of undies for yourself and get rid of that old tattered pair you keep wearing. Buy just one, or one of each type: fun, inspiring, and sexy.
  5. Buy underwear for your friends, family, or bedroom partner. Here’s a helpful bit of info I read on Reuters, most men prefer briefs over boxer and most women prefer bikini briefs.

Freshpair, the ones who started National Underwear Day 7 years ago, are taking the celebration online and offering all sorts of discounts, sales,  and giveaways of underwear for the month of August .Other companies are doing this well, so take advantage.

Easter and Bunny Costumes

March 13th, 2009
As I walk through my local Rite Aid store I am reminded that Easter is approaching. Luckily my son is 20 years old and I no longer need to get the requiste Easter Basket. I am reminded though of a cute poem by Beatrix Potter:

Here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hoppin down the bunny trail,
Hippity, hoppity,
Easter’s on its way.

Bringin every girl and boy Baskets full of Easter joy,
Things to make your Easter bright and gay.
He’s got jelly beans for Tommy,
Colored eggs for sister Sue,
There’s an orchid for your Mommy
And an Easter bonnet, too.

Oh, here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hoppin down the bunny trail,
Hippity, hoppity,
Happy Easter day.

Here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hoppin down the bunny trail,
Look at him stop,
And listen to him say:
“Try to do the things you should.”
Maybe if you’re extra good,
He’ll roll lots of Easter eggs your way.

You’ll wake up on Easter morning
And you’ll know that he was there
When you find those choc’late bunnies
That he’s hiding ev’rywhere.

Oh, here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hoppin down the bunny trail,
Hippity, hoppity,
Happy Easter day.

This Halloween Costume Store is Doing Its Part

February 19th, 2009
Did you hear what NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, did?? He voluntarily cut his pay for 2008 and he refused a raise for 2009? That means he gave up over $2 million to do his part to get us all through these tough times. He wasn’t told to do it, he just believed it to be the right thing to do and acted.

This is exactly the attitude we all need to take on during these hard economic times. Every employee, every business owner, every politician, every high ranking CEO. Think about it. If we all believed as Mr. Goodell does, that it’s going to take a voluntary collective sacrifice, and we all lowered our pay or our prices, it would make a difference.
If you’re an employee, how about offering to take a temporary pay cut? Sounds crazy, I know. But wouldn’t it be better than losing your job altogether, or causing someone else to lose theirs? Refuse that pay raise and take a pay cut instead. I’m disgusted by those politicians accepting raises, those athletes fighting for better paying contracts. It’s not right.
If you’re a landlord, how about lowering the rent you charge? Credit card companies and mortgage companies, lower the monthly payments or put those interest rates on hold. Health providers, lower your rates. Insurance companies, lower your premiums. These are drastic measures, but I think they are needed and more like them.

And in that same spirit, Scavenge will be doing its part. We’ll be offering 25% off any regularly priced item on the website. That means you can save 25% on costumes, wigs, accessories, and even lingerie. This offer isn’t good for items already on sale. We’ve already slashed those prices.
Check out the website, and enter coupon code BAILOUT when you check out. That’s all it takes. No big catch or loophole. All retail stores could find some way to cut their prices at least a little bit. Yes, it means less profit and tightening the belt for our employees as well. But we believe, we all have to do something.
We can all do our part. If we all do it, if we make a collective sacrifice, it’s going to get us all through this economic shit storm better and faster.

Top 10 Creative Ways to Celebrate Valentines

February 2nd, 2009

In case you didn’t know, the standard American date of “dinner and a movie” is really boring, uncreative, and overdone. So why is that when Valentine’s Day rolls around we just supersize the standard American date – dinner at a fancy, expensive place and a romantic movie? Is that any way to show your Valentine how special they are to you? I say NO, it is not! Doing something special, something creative, something out of the ordinary – now that’s the way you show someone they are special.

So here you go! I’ve provided the Top 10 Creative Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day. Use one of them, all of them, or tweak them and make them even more unique. Just, please, in the name of all things romantic, don’t settle for dinner and a movie.

1. Heart Shaped Foods – Make a pizza, a cake, some brownies, or cookies for your sweetheart. You can pick up heart shaped pizza pans, cake pans and cookie cutters at almost a nystore that carries baking pans and utensils. Deliver your heart-shaped creation to your Valentine’s office or to his or her home in person. You might even want to show up all decked out in something sexy and fun (lingerie would definitely be an attention getter), unless, of course you are delivering them to the office. (That might get all the wrong kind of attention.)

2. Serve it with Love – Prepare a wonderful, homemade meal of your honey’s favorites. Then serve the meal on heart-shaped plates or plates with hearts or other Valentinish designs. Of course, the rest of the place setting should be Valentine-themed as well – the silverware, napkins, wine glasses. Don’t forget the candles and romantic music. Top it all off with by serving this meal while wearing something totally hot and irresistible.

3. Romantic Games – Game Daze carries a variety romantic games that will help you make this a Valentine’s Day to remember. They’ve got everything from card games, kama sutra games, and board games that will leave you anything but bored. Let go of your inhibitions and have some good old sex-filled fun.

4. Chrome Bedroom Dice – Head for the bedroom and leave the rest to the roll of the dice.

5. Professional Massage at Home – There’s nothing like a full-body massage by a professional. Arrange for a masseuse to come to your home (or hotel room) – one you’ve prepared with romantic candlelight, soft music, and other accoutrements. Arrange for one and watch your beloved get all relaxed and de-stressed. Or hire two and get your massages together, side by side, holding hands.

6. Romantic Picnic or Meal Outside – Prepare (or buy) a fabulous picnic lunch or dinner and take your sweetie a beautiful setting such as a hillside, a beach, a mountain top, the rooftop of a building, to a river or lake. The locations possibilities are endless. Pick a place with gorgeous, yet peaceful scenery – a place that isn’t too crowded.

7. Karaoke Serenade – Get up on stage and sing a love song to your sweet heart. Go all out as you proclaim your love using the perfect song (choose wisely). Do more than just sing. Present flowers to her/him, give him/her a lap dance, use a boa and sensuously drag and drape it across your Valentine. If you are into marriage and this is “the one,” take this moment to propose. If you are going with the latter idea, substitute a ring for the flowers.

8. Romantic Settings – Take your heartthrob to a romantic setting and just enjoy it and each other and the moment. How about beach walk at sunset, a scenic drive to a great sunset spot, a sunset cruise, a walk through a romantic park or town, a horse-drawn carriage ride, a gondola or canoe ride (You don’t have to go all the way to Venice, Italy for this one. You can also do this at Coronado in San Diego, Naples in Texas, and San Antonio, Texas, just to name a few). How about a horseback ride, a scenic train ride. You could arrange for this to end at a romantic hotel to spend the night. Just make sure to have the room prepared with romantic extras like candles, rose petals, wine, music, and clothes for the following day.

9. Pamper – A bubble bath has got to be the ultimate pampering. So pamper your Valentine and prepare the ultimate bubble bath. First get rid of any and all distractions (kids, dogs, phones). Set the scene. We’re talking candlelight, wine, soft music, and favorite bath oils or bubbles. Have a brand new, extra large, ultra-soft towel ready and the sexiest lingerie possible ready for post-bath
fun. This could be a great thing to give your sweetheart to enjoy all alone or something to indulge in together.

10. Surprise Romantic Getaway – This year, Valentine’s Day happens to fall on a Saturday making it the perfect time for a getaway. I think these are better when done as a surprise, though I admit it does take a bit more work on the planner’s part. Location, location, location. Pick one that will thrill your Valentine. Get it all ready – from the romantic flower petals on the bed to the practical clothes for the weekend. Get a friend to help if you don’t know what to pack or if the location is local enough that the friend can prep the room ahead of time. Hotel staff are also pretty helpful when it comes to getting the room ready.

Top 10 Romantic, One-of-a-Kind, Valentine’s Day Gifts

January 14th, 2009

The day of love and romance is fast approaching. Do you want to settle for flowers and chocolates this Valentine’s Day as the gift to show your special someone how wonderful and loved and important they are to you? Sorry, but in my expert opinion, while flowers are beautiful and chocolates are sweet, they really show no imagination. You gotta do something at least bit different to show someone they are really special to you. The idea is to show your valentine, that of all of the people on planet earth, they are the only one you are interested in. A one-of-a-kind gift is the perfect way to tell your sweetheart that they are unique, matchless, and one-of-a kind in your heart and life.

I’ve scoured the web, consulted the most gifted minds, and even done some brainstorming all on my own, and here are – my Top 10 Romantic One-of-a-Kind Valentine’s Day Gifts. Any one of these will show your heartthrob just how much you really care and how lucky you are to have them in your life. Just a note: I’ve left out all the “gifts” that are more experience-oriented. I’ll cover these on the Top 10 Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day.

1. A Bottle of Memories. Memories on a Bottle will etch a personal message on a bottle of wine for you. Even better, for couples who have some history together, take an elegant bottle (perhaps the champagne or wine bottle from a special night out) and fill it with slips of parchment on which you have written individual memories of your time together.

2. A Romantic Bouquet of Cookies. You can buy custom cookie bouquets of heart-shaped cookies that are brightly iced with fun or romantic messages that you can personalize. This makes a thoughtful (and yummy!) gift.

3. Jewelry Done Right. If you are going to do jewelry (a long time favorite and an old stand by), make yours extra special by making it very personal. Choose a style or design that really fits your sweetheart. Or have it custom made with two interlocking hearts, or other symbols that are particular to the two of you. The best way to make a gift of jewelry really romantic is with a special inscription – and not “Valentine’s Day 2009.”

4. Framed Photo of You. Oh, but you can’t stop there. It has to be one of a kind. It has to be romantic and special. So add a lipstick kiss on the photo, a message, a favorite line from a song or poem, or a saying or quote that means something special to your valentine. The saying could be something that just the both of you get the true meaning of.

5. Framed Photo of You Two. Choose a photo from a special moment, place, date, or trip. Put the photo on one side and a piece of parchment on the other. Use your computer or have someone handwrite out a poem, saying, lines from song or poem, something about special a moment or milestone, or a special message.

6. Love Note in a Bottle. Pour your heart out on paper (a nice piece of

parchment), roll it up and place it in a decorative bottle. You can really go all out with this idea, by offering to draw a bath for your sweetheart then floating the bottle in a bathtub you’ve prepared. Picture this – a tub filled with nice warm water, bubble bath, candlelight, a glass of wine, soft romantic music playing, and a flower arrangement or petals surrounding the bath Now you can complete the moment by having a super-soft brand new towel, and some lingerie to slip into afterward. You can also go to Love Notes Messages and choose a really great bottle and have your words put inside.

7. Love Reminders. Engrave small stones or pewter shapes with words or a short phrase. You can give a single stone that will fit in the pocket or purse – “pocket rocks”. Or make bigger ones to be displayed around the house. Beach rocks are great for this. Or create a collection of engraved river rocks, each one listing a trait or feature you love about your sweetheart. Place them in a very cool glass dish or bowl and, presto, you’ve got an amazingly cool gift that tells him/her what you think about them.

8. Journey Journal – Put together a small journal that holds pictures of events from your relationship. Include things you love about him/her, favorite memories, milestone events, trips, concert, airplane or movie tickets from places you’ve gone together. Include your words, thoughts, and feeling along with inspirational or romantic sayings, song lyrics or lines from a poem.

9. Photo Book – With just a few clicks, you can create a high quality, total

ly professional photo book. Upload photos of the two of you at different stages of your relationship, maybe even include some photos of places you want to go together. Check out Kodak or Shutterfly.

10. Compose It. If you have a particular talent – let’s say in music, singing, writing, drawing, painting, sculpture, etc – use it to create at totally unique gift for the love of your life. Write and record a song just for him/her, write a story or poem, draw, paint or sculpt something just for her/him.

Yep, creating a personalized, unique gift takes more time. Your words and thoughts are the best presents. These are ways to capture them and preserve them. The time and effort you take to put them together will speak volumes about the way you feel about your valentine.
