ABC’s smash hit LOST, which many believe redefined what television can be, might be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep the show’s spirit alive.  Here are a few of our favorite LOST costume ideas.  Share your picks in the comments section.

Hurley. Everyone’s favorite rotund lottery-winner managed to maintain his weight by eating a diet of tree fruit and Dharma Initiative leftovers.  Let your straggly curls loose, grab a sweat soaked t-shirt and don’t shave for six days and you too can be the unluckiest/luckiest man alive.

Defined by the Cold war, feminism and lava lamps, the 1970s always make for a great party theme.  But with so many choices, how to dress for a 70s party can be a tough challenge.  Since every generation can easily identify many of the characters from the era, suiting up in a 70s costume is guaranteed to bring a smile to the faces of other partygoers.

TELEVISION

The Love Boat. Guys can hit the sea as Captain Merrill Stubing by wearing a white jacket with shoulder pads and a captain’s hat.  Ladies can dust off that blue blazer and play the role of Julie McCoy, cruise director.  Kick it up a notch by recording the show’s infectious theme song on your MP3 player and playing it out of your pocket.

M*A*S*H. Put on some green or khaki Army fatigues and slip a white armband up your sleeve and you’ll be dressed like America’s favorite medics.

How NOT to Throw a Costume Party

Although they have the potential to be the best party in town, without some forethought costume parties can turn into a bore and bomb.  Follow these tips to be sure your costume carnival will be a huge success.

Don’t wait until the last minute to send your invites.  People need time to get their creative juices flowing (and to find and book a good costume).  By all means invite the people you forgot about or just connected with the day before, but the bulk of the guests need a few weeks notice.
